The Art department is located on the third floor at the southern end of the school. It consists of 6 well equipped rooms, a photographic darkroom, a suite of Apple iMacs, a pottery kiln, and a range of Macbooks and netbooks for use in all classrooms. The rooms are located around a gallery display area where student work can be seen. Being on the third floor means that the rooms are flooded with daylight, and have views across the rooftops towards the City of London and Docklands. Our students aspire for excellence and they achieve it!
Our achievements are outstanding in relation to all schools in England at GCSE and A level. Our percentage of A* at A level was outstanding and students at GCSE achieve excellent results year after year. This success is built upon our devotion to Art education. Students currently undertake courses in Art, Graphics and Photography at GCSE level with Art and Photography at A Level.
The department Includes, after school classes on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Artists in residence have given students a chance to work with an art professional. The curriculum has been enhanced increasing opportunities for students to take extra GCEs in art subjects. We have also increased the overall number of students entered for art exams. Once again these GCSE results achieved over 98% for A*-C grades.
