This week we invited two of our ex-students back in to showcase their university portfolios to our current design students. Both girls are coming to the end of their first year at Westminster University and gave us a lovely insight into their undergraduate journey so far. Intrigued listeners from years 10, 11, 12 and 13 interested in pursuing design-related careers came prepared with questions related to the course requirements/ the course structure and life as a university student in central London. Here’s what some who attended had to say:
“I have never been given an opportunity to speak to university students about their work. I found this very useful as I begin my architecture degree in September and had lots of questions as I have not taken Art or Product Design as an A-Level. Working with industries seems daunting but exciting at the same time. I cannot wait!” Omar Safdari, Year 13
“I have a lot more knowledge about the requirements of a portfolio for next year and the advice given about interviews was very insightful. Their work is amazing!” Inshirah Jhumka, Year 12
“I know teachers here help us a lot and I am a bit nervous about being more independent! It seems a lot of help is given by university tutors as I was worried about being thrown in the deep end. I am also looking forward to meeting international students and making new friends” Kishan Patel, Year 12
“I’m excited to follow their footsteps and learn how to use new software. Although they said the jump from school to university was very big and that the course seems intense from the start, a lot of help is available and it is now definitely a course I want to get into” Punom Nath, Year 12
We loved having Saniat and Gulcan back in the Art Department and we wish them the best of luck. We look forward to welcoming back more ex-students in the near future as those who took part found this very beneficial. Watch this space!
