Food at Loxford is taught in our two new specialist rooms. We have a full range of equipment for use throughout Key Stage 3 and 4. This helps the beginner learner to gain confidence in their new skills and the more advanced learner to become more adept in the skills they already have.
We actively promote the study of Food Technology and Home Economics by both boys and girls. We embrace and actively support the wide cultural make up of the school community, using it as a focus throughout many aspects of our learning experiences.
The practical skills learned and knowledge gained are true life skills. This `true life` ethos underpins all the project work which the students in KS3 and KS4 undertake. We actively encourage the use of multimedia in the students work in order that all students develop their own unique designing and presentation style. True life catering and restaurant experience is brought by Mr. Mc Carey which in turn supports student creativity and enterprise.
All students must study Food once at Key Stage 3 whilst Home Economics: Food is an option for GCSE. At Key Stage 4 all students will study and complete the WJEC syllabus which comprises of two coursework pieces and one written exam. Coursework accounts for 60% of the overall mark.

Support for your learning
Our aim is to enable students to express themselves through practical tasks and build a strong foundation of a wide range of practical skills across both subject areas.
We want all students to become independent learners, gaining confidence in the use of specialist equipment and terminology and ICT design programmes.
Students are encouraged to work autonomously, in design teams and as a whole class to solve design problems and create solutions. We encourage creative thinking and methodical organisation and planning of the work to be undertaken.
We actively promote the study of these subjects by both boys and girls and embrace the wide cultural make up of the school community, using it as a focus throughout many aspects of our learning experiences.
The practical skills learned and knowledge gained in these two subject areas are true life skills.
