LOXFORD IN THE MONTH OF JANUARY

Within the month of January our students took part in the following activities:-

  • School Council meetings were held across all the year groups and they discussed the following
    • What is the meaning of Pledges? How will they benefit you in the future?
    • How can we make the council more exciting/engaging?
    • What leadership training opportunities would you like?
    • Tracking card – do you understand the grading system 1 to 9 in every subject?
    • Safety in the playground and activities at lunch time
  • Year 13 held their mock exams
  • Year 13 had a successful Parents’ Evening with a 93% attendance
  • Apprenticeships Workshop Talks were held internally
  • Year 11 Parents’ Evening had a fantastic evening with 97% attendance
  • Our Year 13 English Language and Literature students attended a lecture by Westminster University who came to Loxford to deliver a lecture on “Dystopia”. This was an opportunity for them to develop their contextual understanding of the genre for their exam

We visited the following places:-

  • Our Year 13 Chemistry students attended a seminar and listened to 4 scientists who are working at the cutting edge of their specialisms and it gave them a chance to raise issues with the scientists. They enjoyed the talks and were well behaved
  • Year 11 GCSE PE students attended their athletics assessment at Ilford Athletics Stadium. Whilst there, they completed various technique and activity drills in the 100m sprint and in the shot put throw
  • The Year 11 Art students visited the Victoria & Albert Museum to collect primary source material for their coursework as part of their first GCSE exam topic
  • Our Year 13 Business students visited the Bank of England and some other key financial institutions, including Lloyds of London, The Gherkin and The Shard

Loxford took part in many sporting fixtures:-

  • Year 7 girls’ netball defeated Mayfield 6-2
  • Year 8 boys’ football lost to Valentines 3-4
  • Year 7 took part in an indoor athletics competition at Beal High School with other schools in Redbridge
  • Year 8 also took part in an indoor athletics competition at Mayfield School with other schools in Redbridge
  • Girls’ swimming trials were held to decide who would be successful to participate in the Borough’s schools swimming gala in February
  • Our 6th former football team lost to Forest Academy 1-2
