The two or three years you spend in the Sixth Form will give you the knowledge, skills and experience to move you closer to your dream.  Our aim is to give you the challenge and support to make this happen. A comprehensive induction programme is provided so that you students quickly settle into our sixth form. This is important if you are new to Loxford but still vital if you are continuing from year 11. There are high expectations of you in year 12.

We pride ourselves on being a place of learning for all – if you want to join us then we will do our best to put together a combination of courses that will work for you.  All we ask in return is that you demonstrate commitment to your education and that you contribute to the community in and around Loxford.

We are committed to high quality education and offer a wide range of suitable spaces for you to study independently.  An environment which encourages academic achievement and social development along with dedicated tutor support contribute to the success of our students. We aim to create a culture in which students want to succeed and high achievement and excellence are positively viewed.

There are plenty of opportunities to enrich your experience in Loxford; from Duke of Edinburgh’s Award to work experience supporting younger pupils in their learning.  Have you found a gap in what we offer?  Then work with us to make sure it’s filled!

We regularly monitor academic progress and students. Parents and teachers work closely together to ensure that you will achieve your full potential. We regard our Sixth Formers as role models for younger members of the school and are keen for you to be involved in the wider aspects of school life. Sixth Form students contribute significantly to many activities, including music, sport and drama.

We provide a high level of guidance and support for you as they prepare for life after Loxford, whether this is embarking on a career or going on to higher education. Each year a large proportion of our Year Thirteen students progress to the university of their choice. We are proud that students from our school have gone on to universities the length and breadth of the country to study courses from Medicine to Law and Business to Primary Education.  If university is not for you, then we support you as you take the first steps in your career. At Loxford we provide students with the skills, knowledge, understanding and flexibility to make informed decisions and cope confidently with the changes that will occur in the world around them during their adult life.

Admissions and Key Dates

Making an application to the Sixth Form at Loxford is the first step on your Post 16 journey.

The key dates for the 2011 admissions process are below.

March 4th - In-house application deadline
This is the deadline for all students currently studying at Loxford. You will be given an application form to complete by your tutor. You are asked to read the subject descriptions and the school prospectus. Ask staff and current sixth formers for advice as necessary.

March/April 2011
During this time discussions will take place with internal students about their application. Each student will have an interview with one of the Sixth Form team to look at their subject choices and combinations. References will be requested for this process.

March 11th – External application deadline
This is the deadline for all students not currently studying at Loxford. Application forms are available on the school website. You are asked to read the subject descriptions and the school prospectus. Please browse through other pages on this website where you can see information about the subjects on offer. If you are successful in being offered an interview then you will be invited to tour the school at the same time. This will be between the 21st of March and the 1st of April.

April 8th – Provisional offers letter sent to successful external candidates
All external students will receive a letter notifying them if they have secured a provisional place at Loxford Sixth Form. The letter will be a provisional offer and is conditional on the student gaining the grades that are required to study their chosen courses in the Sixth Form.

April – August
Applications are still welcome from outstanding students. Application forms are available on link above. You are asked to read the subject descriptions and the school prospectus. Your application will be considered as soon as it is received. If you are successful then you will be contacted with the offer of an interview and you will be invited to tour the school at the same time.

August
You will receive your GCSE results from your current school and you will have a personal interview to review your results and confirm your place at Loxford.

Recommended Course Combinations

Informed Choices, produced in collaboration with the Institute of Career Guidance, is aimed at all students considering A-level and equivalent options. It includes advice on the best subject combinations for a wide range of university courses as well as advice on the best choices if you don’t know what you want to study after school and need to keep your options open. Please download it and read the section 'Making your Post 16 subject choices'.

This table provides general guidelines and is not intended to be inclusive. In some cases the academic potential and personal qualities of the individual are as important as the A level choices.

Recommended Course Combinations

Most Nursing and Paramedic courses require Biology at Advanced level and some require a GCSE in Physics.

This document is only a guide. Please refer to the UCAS website for requirements for courses.

Additional Entry Requirements

We are an individual school who sees each student as an individual.

We always look at a student’s GCSE results and consider if they are able to do the range of subjects which they might wish to study. This results in certain students being on some courses without the above requirements.

It must be noted that most subject areas would prefer students to have higher grades than the MINIMUM listed above.
