Year 1 Visit Royal Observatory

On the 23rd and 31st of January Year 1 embarked on a trip to Greenwich Royal Observatory. In topic Year 1 have been studying Space and this was the perfect opportunity to find out more about our Solar System. The children attended a discovery day at the Observatory starting with a Planetarium Show . It was a fantastic experience  following Ted the Bear on an adventure through Space.  The  children traveled with Ted to the Moon and then the Sun, discovering some basic science of light and shadow along the way.  We visited all eight of the planets from Mercury to Neptune learning simple facts about each along the way. The next session was an interactive workshop called Seasonal Explorers were we meet Ted the Bear again on his return from Space.  Through music, song and role-play they explained the different seasons to Ted and what each is like. The children even managed to select  the right clothing for Ted for each season to make sure he doesn’t get too hot or cold but is just right. A massive thank you to Mrs Gallimore, Miss Keene in the office and all our extra helpers on the day who made this trip possible!
