Over the past 4 weeks female students from years 7 – 9 have been participating in Zumba sessions on a Tuesday lunchtime.
The sessions, run in partnership with Vision Redbridge Culture & Leisure and taught by Su Davis from Freshly Squeezed, have been funded through the Street Games initiative to encourage young females in the Ilford Area to get more active.
Zumba involves dance and aerobic movements performed to energetic music and is now one of the most popular ways for women to get fit. The choreography has enabled our students to experience different Latin dances such as hip-hop, soca, samba, salsa, merengue and mambo as well as belly dancing and martial arts, all set to a soundtrack of upbeat Latin music tempos.
Loxford students have thoroughly enjoyed these fun, fitness sessions with Su and have described Zumba as “an awesome workout”. They have loved the exciting, rhythmical exercise routines that are great fun to both take part in and watch.
Well done to all students who have attended each week!
