Law Workshop at Loxford School – 10th July 2018
We had two solicitors visit us last week to give an insight into their career paths with some Y12 students. Anika Chandi and Chris Fagan currently work for the London Borough of Waltham Forest in the Commercial Team as Contracts and Procurement Solicitors. They shared their experiences of the route they took to qualify, the challenges they have faced over the years and gave an overview of some of the day to day matters they work on.
Students asked very intriguing questions which covered ways of preparing themselves in their final school year and academic/ non-academic (apprenticeship) routes into qualifying.
Students thoroughly enjoyed the workshop and had the following to say:
“I found it beneficial as I felt they both gave us hidden information and real case studies which aren’t covered in textbooks” – Zoya
“I really enjoyed the presentation as I got a clear overview of the different pathways of law and the general expectations of a law degree. I have come to the conclusion that I would really like to pursue a career in law” – Sarah
“The workshop gave me a wider overview of law as they gave us lots of information about the options available and I am now considering it as a degree” – Michael
“They interacted with us and answered all my questions to help with my university application. I am also planning to apply for some experience with the links they gave us so I can shadow solicitors” – Munira
“I think the solicitors visiting helped us as we are about to prepare for university applications. They told us about their experiences and what routes they both took to get to where they are today which we don’t get to always see or hear about” – Gospel
