The Design and Technology department organised a trip to London Stadium in Stratford to see how the stadium has been changed since its design for use in the Olympics to its use as a football stadium.

The former Olympic Stadium in London that inspired world class athletes is now transformed into a fantastic multi-use venue. Pupils can tour the home team’s changing room; the dugout; race on the indoor running track; and much more! Students got the opportunity to see the hospitality areas, the home and away changing rooms, and the major league baseball changing room and went pitch to look at the pitch and admire the very well kept grass (Did you know they mow the grass twice a day unless it is a match day, when it is mowed four times before the match to ensure the perfect grass)

The tour was inspiring and engaging and combines the legacy of the 2012 games and the innovations that have transformed the stadium into a world class venue that is now the home to UK Athletics and Premier League football team, West Ham United.

One of the photos shows the number 7 starting lane – the lane in which Usain Bolt won his gold medal. The rest of the track is outside his home in Jamaica.

Students were able to see how this stadium was designed to be multi-functional and be used beyond just being a stadium for the Olympics.
