Curriculum

Our Sixth Form is vibrant, diverse, successful and growing. Nearly three quarters of students from Year 11 choose to stay on because they understand our supportive staff and friendly atmosphere combine with challenging expectations and high standards  are a great recipe for future success. We also welcome many students from other schools.

We offer a large range of academic and vocational qualifications; our pupils are guided on a study programme based on their prior attainment and future university, apprenticeship or employment goals. We offer GCSE Maths and English for students who have not achieved a grade 4 in these subjects by age 16. We offer a range of non-qualification activities to our core programme including Lox100, PSCHE, Future Pathways and Enrichment activities. Students are supported in accessing a range of university access
programmes such as King Plus, Work Experience opportunities, volunteering opportunities or insight into professions.

The quality of education in our Sixth Form fully equips our students for the brightest possible futures. Our excellent academic standards are achieved through a combination of strong subject teaching and empowering relationships. We pride ourselves on our exceptional pastoral care. We believe that your Sixth Form experience is vital to your overall success and we want to do everything we can to make the transition as smooth as possible. In addition to academic success, we will help you develop as confident, creative individuals and leaders, able to contribute to the community and the wider world.

We offer two different routes which enables us to say we are fully inclusive Sixth Form where all students can flourish if they have the correct attitude to learning.

Route 1 - Vocational: BTEC Level 3 Extended Diplomas

We offer the BTEC Extended Diploma in 4 subjects: Business Studies, Media Studies, ICT and Science. These courses run over two years.

All four are the equivalent of 3 A levels in terms of their UCAS points, timetable hours and level of work required. These subjects require a minimum of grade 4’s, preferably including both a grade 4 in English and Maths.

The Extended Diploma course fills most of a timetable; there is room for GCSE resits in Maths and English if required. Students also carry out PSCHE and private study.
