Loxford Students Experience the Magic of Live Orchestral Music with Trinity Laban
BackTrinity Laban
This week, Music students from Loxford School enjoyed an unforgettable trip to see a live orchestral performance presented by Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, one of the UK’s leading conservatoires. Trinity Laban is ranked 13th in the world for Performing Arts in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026, and it is the only conservatoire in the UK specialising in both music and contemporary dance, so our students were treated to music-making of the very highest standard.
For many of our students, this was their very first experience of hearing a live orchestra, and they were captivated from the first note to the last. The presenter guided them through the performance brilliantly, explaining each idea step by step so that everyone could follow along. The highlight for many was Vaughan Williams’ symphony, which made such an impression that students were asking to listen to it again on the journey home.
The session was wonderfully interactive. Students who began a little shy were soon raising their hands, sharing answers and discussing the music with one another. The musicians were generous with their time, answering questions about their instruments, and some of our students even had the chance to stand on the conductor’s podium.
Thanks to Trinity Laban’s commitment to accessibility, tickets cost just £3.50 per student. This meant that every student was able to take part, regardless of background, and it has already sparked new interest in instrumental lessons and school ensembles.
One student summed up the day perfectly:
“Miss, when I was sat beside the violins and harp and they played their first notes, I immediately started crying and got goosebumps. I didn’t know music could make me feel this way, and I definitely want to try to play in an orchestra one day. Thank you so much for this experience. I feel like it changed my life.”
We would like to say a huge thank you to Trinity Laban for such an inspiring day, and we look forward to working with them again.
