Year 12 Law students from Loxford School had the invaluable opportunity to visit the iconic Royal Courts of Justice in London. One of the most historic and architecturally stunning legal buildings in the country. The majestic Gothic-style building, which has housed the High Court and Court of Appeal since the late 19th century, provided a fitting backdrop for a truly immersive learning experience.

During their visit, students participated in an engaging and educational workshop focused on knife crime, based on a real-life case from 2013. They explored the grand courtrooms, walking in the footsteps of real judges, barristers, and solicitors, wearing traditional courtroom props such as robes and wigs. Students were assigned key courtroom roles, including Judge, Prosecution and Defence Lawyers, Solicitors, Clerk, Court Usher, Witnesses, and Jury Members.

This hands-on experience offered students a practical understanding of the criminal justice system and the serious consequences of knife-related offences. The historical setting, combined with the authenticity of wearing the traditional attire, added a powerful sense of gravity and realism to the proceedings.

Beyond expanding their legal knowledge, the workshop helped students develop essential skills such as public speaking, critical thinking, teamwork, and persuasive argumentation.

It was an inspiring and eye-opening day that not only brought the courtroom to life but also gave students a realistic insight into the responsibilities of legal professionals an unforgettable experience in a truly remarkable setting.
