Science Trip to London Zoo

Back
June 30th 2025

On Thursday 26th June, enthusiastic students from Years 7, 8 and 9 at Loxford School took part in an exciting science enrichment trip to London Zoo. The visit aimed to extend students’ learning beyond the classroom and give them the opportunity to explore key scientific concepts in a real-world setting.

Throughout the day, students explored a wide range of exhibits showcasing animals from across the globe. From the towering giraffes and playful gorillas to the majestic tigers and fascinating reptiles, the variety of species on display gave students a first-hand look at the diversity of life on Earth. The rainforest area was a particular highlight, allowing students to observe a different ecosystem and how animals are specially adapted to their environments. They even got to see a 2 day old baby sloth!

As they made their way through the zoo, students had the chance to make links with topics they’ve been studying in class, such as food chains, habitats, animal adaptations, and environmental conservation.

Their behaviour throughout the day was excellent—they showed great curiosity, respect for the animals, and asked thoughtful questions during their visit. It was a pleasure to see them so engaged and excited about science.

The trip not only deepened their scientific understanding but also inspired greater interest in wildlife and conservation. It was a fantastic day out that combined education, exploration, and fun—one that the students will remember.
